THE
CALM B4 THE STORM MMMMMMMMMMMhhhhhmmmm. yes in deed ! ha ha ha!!!!!! This is the freestyle Music dot com...........anything goes. I said..........ANYTHING. First I want to thank everyone on behalf of myself JONPITO, JORGE OJEDA and the rest of the Freestyle Music dot.com staff for the over whelming letters of support from the labels, DJ's, artist, websites, radio personel, record stores, other writers from so many magazines and free lance writers, the people at the media outlets and TV shows. Most of all the fans and dance music purist. The loyal followers and members of Freestyle Music dot Com.
You all know how we do this, KEEPING IT REAL and doing what we are known to do, tell it
as it is, the truth. If you find it controversial, or a lil' too much for you, I advise
you the same as I advised everyone eight years ago............ THE SAME WAY YOU CAME IN
HERE, IS THE SAME WAY YOU CAN LOG OUT. In other words (lol) But you know, this is a world, a world where I think your beautiful and dance music
knows you are beautiful, no matter what you are, or where you are. This is a world where
the most fit and athletic men, doctors, plane pilots, teachers etc., walk around shirtless
in big venue circuit parties with a THOUSAND others. A world where the UN-COOL high school
rejects come back as cool in a underground alternative night scene. Where kids and
professionals during the day become, lollipop sucking, glow stick/light twirling fantasies
during the late hours of the nights and early morning twilight's. A WORLD WHERE NEW GENERATION OF FREESTYLE KIDS HAVE BLUE HAIR, BODY PIERCING AND DRESS RETRO TRASH-GLAM. You can Pound on your drum and they wont understand. You can hymn and they wont understand. YOU CAN ARCH YOURSELF BACK AS FAR AS YOU CAN, THROW THEM ARMS UP IN THE AIR AND YELL OUT TILL YOU SURRENDE AND THEY STILL WONT UNDERSTAND! YOU CAN CRY,YOU CAN LAUGH YOU CAN EVEN LIVE IN THE PAST IN COMFORT, BUT THE TRUTH IS YOU NEED TO STAND and be HEARD. Though ThEY WON'T UNDERSTAND, THEY CAN AND WILL LISTEN!!! THEY WILL HEAR THE CRY OF THE NEGRO SPIRITUALS THAT ROSE OUT OF THE FIELD AND INTO THE CHURCH, ROCK N ROLL, RHYTHM N BLUES, DISCO,FREESTYLE AND CIRCUIT HOUSE MUSIC. THEY WILL DANCE TO THE AFRO-LATIN DRUM AND PERCUSSION THAT KEPT PLAYING FOR OVER THE PAST 500 YEARS, WHEN THE SPANIARDS BROUGHT OUR ANCESTORS OVER FROM AFRICA. THEY WILL FEEL THE PAIN AND JOY THAT OUR NATIVE INDIGEONIST CIVILIZATIONS FELT. THE SAME AS THE CRIES AND JOYS OF GYPSIES BROUGHT OVER FROM OUR SPANIARD ANCESTORS. THE SOUND OF SUGARCANE FIELDS RESURRECTED AND DOMINATING THE BIGGEST ROOMS OF MODERN DAY CLUB LAND. They will hear and feel the pain, joy and pride of Freestyle rooted people and the gay tribal underground. THIS IS A WORLD, A UNDERGROUND WORLD! OUR WORLD! Now, I want to thank everyone who has sent material. I also want to thank everyone for being patient. As you all know, Freestyle music dot com is also part of the recording industry and we all have busy schedules, working on many projects that will be taking place in March. Other news................MIAMI is the place to be! While many in the industry are headed this month to France for the MIDEM being held in Cannes from January 25-29 , others are packing their bags and getting ready for their pilgrimage to Miami. Basically to do the same: Market, meet contacts, shop projects and meet people that they talk to all year long over the phone and yet never met in person. (YES, that chick or guy you talked on the phone and thought was young and hot...IS NOT!!! lol.) (And that person you were rude to...is so your type.) The Midem summit in France is one of the most important and recognized summits at a respected global level. The summit deals with many markets such as Rock, Classical, Jazz, and Dance music (they still call it Electronica (laugh). If you have the time and the money, you can still go to Midem in Cannes, France. At this point you are better off to just go to the website www.midem.com and figure how to get there. The Summit starts in a week. Midem is also known to have chosen Miami as the important city for its Miami Dance Event functions, usually held before summer. More info on that event in future issues. The WINTER MUSIC CONFERENCE is being held this year on Saturday March 6- Wednesday, thru March 10. If you register before January 28,2004, you will pay the fee of $275. Before Feb 18 that fee rises to $325.Walk up registration is only $395 beginning Feb 19. This years WMC is said to be one of the biggest and is said to make up for last years absence from many who did not fly to Miami due to the terrorist/911 scare. (I was on a plane the week after 911 all was cool and remained cool, except being stopped for profiling, lol!) For more info you can go to the website www.wintermusicconference.com and register now. Everyone and their mother will be there.
Competing this year against the WINTER MUSIC CONFERENCE is the MIAMI MUSIC MULTIMEDIA SUMMIT held March 5-9 at the Nash Hotel and Surfcomber hotel on South Beach. Passes are at $285 at this moment. More info and feedback on these events coming next issue in February (only a couple of weeks from now).
Miami basically becomes the center of the universe for dance music at all its levels. At the Ultra fest alone, over 50 thousand people from around the globe flood downtown Miami. This year the Chemical Brothers,Paul Oakenfold,Erick Morillo and many others will take center stage. After party will most likely take place at BONGO's at the American Airline Arena. This making the event a official WMC opening party.Bongo's owned by Gloria and Emilio Estefan, also known as the New President of Sony (replacing MR. Matola). More info about the specifics of the ultra fest will be added next issue. DanceStar USA, will be held this year on Tuesday March 9,2004 on south beach. Join us next issue as Ben Turner, sits and tells us all about this years award show. This year's Dancestar is said to bigger than last years. MIAMI DOESN'T STOP!!!!! As if it wasn't enough with the masses of people flowing to Miami for Ultra, winter Music Conference, Miami Music multimedia conference, dancestar awards show, MTV, and SPRING BREAK....................but the gay circuit world invades Miami for an additional week of big room and out door fund raiser parties.
The WINTER party rolls into MIAMI right after the Winter Music conference, SO you might as well just stay another week. MARCH 11-15 another Circuit style fund raiser invades Miami, bringing the top lords of the gay circuit and "real" tribal house scene.
Susane Marabito will take on Crobar Saturday March 13 for the Revelation party. $30-40 on Saturday March 13 Many Lehman controls the floor at Maze (formerly the Salvation building). And one of the most awaited parties, Alyson Calagna and the legendary DJ ABEL bring back the legendary club Paragon at Large (the location of Space 34).Tickets for that party range from $65-85. More info on the Winter party will be given on next months issue. You can purchase tickets on line now at www.winterparty.com More info with these events will be available in a couple of weeks, also more info on Tracy Young's label FEROSH, The Return of Mickey Garcia and Micmac, The Tai Shan ball line up and locations (yes LOCATIONS,as in 2 parties this year).that and so much more. This basically raps up this months issue of the Community Report. Once again thanking everyone for the love given and also for your patience and understanding (especially in these busy months of our season as a music industry). This is not a Latin site, this is not a gay site, this is not a Electro clash, breaks or dance site, This is not a specific type of site. Its all in one. This is not only a Freestyle music site, but a diverse site where everyone has and is represented one way or another. One day we might lean towards one genre, other time to another, but always representing and educating how we all are related to one another and how our past keeps us all linked. How we learn from one another and how to learn and keep alive this industry. Underground or commercial, always keeping it real. ALWAYS KEEPING THE MUSIC ALIVE!. Next month as we get into the mode for Miamis largest block party, Calle Ocho, we go to the streets of 8th streets lil' Havana on a journey with Debbie and Daphne of AVENUE D, as they bless with JOY their presence to the older Cuban male generation at lil' Havana's DOMINO PARK. Also the reviews, new music more news etc and the revealing of MIAMI'S next GODDESS DJ the legendary POWER INFINITY!!!! Sooooo, Party 95.3 in Orlando switched to hiphop, and other dance stations in California and across the nation also switched formats. Truth is, over half of the dance music community didnt need them strictly to survive. We always have and always will strive from the underground and always get back on radio one way or another. (Hmmm could it be that people are actually tired of hearing played out Euro commercial trance records? Over and over and over again. Could it be that people want a change to more freestyle break sides and 80s influenced records, like the ones that labels use to get on commercial radio, but never include those mixes on CDs. But still have the nerve to bitch that people go out and download those versions????????? ( OH NO ..your killing the industry!!! Wine and cheese!)But according to some companies they say people still want to hear castles in the sky. 4 years later. Hmmm well WHOSE KILLING THE MUSIC? It lives here at Freestyle Music dot Com!!!!!!! Paul Oakenfold used to work for Profile records during the late 80s. A label very known to deal with American dance Music of the 80s.At that time the label had albums from artist like Judy Torres with hits like No Reason To Cry and Come Into My Arms, produced by Mickey Garcia. FREESTYLE!!! Later oakenfold relocated to the U.k.Today Oakenfold is one of the most influential DJ/producers . lately also known for his updated versions of modern Electro dance/r&b records and remixes, even opening a BREAKS division for his Perfecto imprint. From remixes for Madonna or Justine Timberlake to remakes of Africa Bambata's "Planet Rock"...........it is clear to see that Oakenfold's influences are also rooted to American forms of early 80's electrofunk and freestyle/r&b dance. A sound very pop and globally sought after other producers, such as Richard X or the Neptune's for future projects Kraftwerk was important in the world of Electro
but our
line began as resurrected disco, when the FUNK restructured it and gave birth to the early
80s American disco boom. Early 80s Electro funk and freestyle/Latin hiphop
dance. Of course not. |
